ACCREDITATION

What is Accreditation?
Accreditation is a voluntary process by which primary and secondary schools, colleges, universities, and professional schools submit to a review process by an outside agency (sometimes a Government agency) to ensure quality of service and institutional integrity.

Is It Necessary to Enroll in an Accredited Institution?
That depends on one's reasons for studying in the first place. If the ultimate intention is to obtain a college or university degree in a particular chosen field of study, then accreditation is a must. Many graduate programmes and employers require an accredited degree as a prerequisite and rarely recognise qualifications gained at a non-accredited school or college. However, if one is simply seeking to supplement existing knowledge, to gain practical skills and develop one's God-given abilities and gifts for his service, an accredited course of study may not be necessary. There are many who are actively and effectively serving the Lord in ministry and on the mission field without formal qualifications.

Does the title "Accredited" guarantee quality of education?
Not necessarily. Some "accreditation" agencies will accredit anyone just about anyone who presents well and has a spare $500. Other agencies have been set up by the very institutions they purport to accredit. Please read the article Great Moments in Accreditation by John Bear.

Are Non-Accredited Institutions Necessarily Bad?
By no means. It helps to bear in mind that all accredited institutions were non-accredited at some stage. Oxford, Cambridge, Harvard, and Princeton were all un-accredited at some time in their illustrious past. Capella University and Jones International University were non-accredited until a few years ago, but these institutions have an enviable reputation in the field of education.
There are also many fine Christian colleges who, for mainly theological reasons do not seek accreditation (especially from the Government). Indeed, one could ask, how could a secular authority accurately determine the suitability and quality of courses in matters that pertain to God?

Does Moriah School of Ministry Have Accreditation?
No. Genuine accreditation is a very costly process and is well beyond the current budget of the School. Perhaps those best qualified to judge the effectiveness of our courses are the students themselves - they are certainly our best advertising media!
